Once again, we only have one new show and one returning show tonight. While there are a few shows that will be premiering in October, for the most part, everything’s up and running.

Which means we can start the fun part: speculating about the first cancellations of the season! (For the record, I don’t think “The Playboy Club” is long for this world, as it’s getting bad ratings and it is also spectacularly dumb.)

Tonight’s new show is on…

CBS:

“How to Be a Gentlman,” 8:30 P.M.

What Is It?: A sitcom about an uptight magazine columnist (David Hornsby) who moves in with an old high school friend, a meatheaded trainer played by Kevin Dillon.

Why To Watch: Dave Foley, (“NewsRadio” and “The Kids in the Hall”), Mary Lynn Rajskub, (“24”), and Rhys Darby, (“Flight of the Concords”), are also in it, and they are all very funny actors.

Why To Turn the Channel: Even the best comedic actors can’t make up for bad scripts and bad jokes, and CBS comedies tend to have a lot of both.

Returning Show:

ABC:

“Private Practice” returns at 10 P.M. Pete will not die from that heart attack, although many may wish he did because man, he was a drag last season, wasn’t he? Benjamin Bratt will also be returning to the show as that fertility doctor Addison will most likely bone.
