San Francisco police are asking witnesses to a hit-and-run that left a man severely injured in the Tenderloin neighborhood last week to come forward.
Police said a man in his early 30s was walking alone to work at about 5 a.m. Wednesday when a car struck him at Hyde Street and Golden Gate Avenue.
A surveillance camera from a local business recorded the incident, and inspectors are now reviewing and trying to enhance the footage, according to police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza.
The video shows the man walking in a crosswalk on a green light when the suspect vehicle–believed to be a newer-model, silver four-door sedan, possibly an Oldsmobile–turned and hit him, Esparza said.
The car “slowed down to a stop and then drove away,” Esparza said.
The victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. He remained in the hospital today.
One witness called 911, and others were in the area at the time, according to Esparza.
“We’d like them to come forward and call police,” he said.
Investigators believe the suspect vehicle might have a partial license plate number of 6AQ, police said.
