Many times, when people hear that I used to work at the Chronicle, they ask me if I know the paper’s former editor, Phil Bronstein. When I say “who?” “yes,” they typically respond with a barrage with questions about Komodo Dragons, Sharon Stone, or (depending on the age of the questioner) Clint Reilly’s ankle.

I am hopeful, however, that with the launch of Phil’s vyou channel, they will turn their questions on him, and leave me the hell alone (or talk to me about something I am more eager to discuss, like movies or animals).

Vyou, as any SFist reading beard-fearer knows, is a little social media doohickey where you can anonymously type in questions for the account holders to answer via webcam.

Why is Bronstein willing to open himself up to some, quite possibly, nutso remarks? He explains: “(p)art of my job” (he’s now “Director of Content Development & Editor-at-Large“) is sniffing out interesting journalistic experiments and trying them out at Hearst papers and web sites….But I can’t Dicky Eklund this and expect colleagues to go into the public ring if I’m not willing to do the same.”

So hit him, everybody, like he’s Christian Bale playing Marky Mark’s brother. Just type into the field above, it’s that simple.

And, NO, I never got a good look at his (reportedly gnawed to hell) foot.
