NewYear.jpgFrom house parties to expensive bars to warehouse massives to roller skate jams, San Francisco knows how to throw an epic New Year’s Party.

Luckily this year there are plenty of ways to get to your destination safely and for free. From 8pm New Years Eve until 6 am New Years Day Muni is free (yes, even cable cars), free CalTrain rides on New Years Eve after 11pm and with extended service after midnight, and cabs are free from 10pm to 4 am within the city limits up to a $35 fare (Call Luxor Cab at (415) 282-4141 for free ride, more details here).

Sea of Dreams
Dust off those Burning Man duds, Sea of Dreams is a huge celebration with a serious line-up including the Thievery Corporation, the Balkan Beat Box, Beats Antique, and many more. Plus circus and carnival performance, “immersive interactive environments,” and outrageous costumes. At the Concourse Exhibition Center, $90.

Better Off New Year’s
This year111 Minna‘s 80’s themed New Year’s Eve Party includes a free photobooth, burlesque, live bands, 2 dance floors. The $100 entrance also gets you a hosted bar.

Fireworks at the Embarcadero
Don’t want to spend a hundred dollar cover at the clubs? Check out Pier 14 for a free waterfront fireworks display at midnight, perfect with friends and budget festivities. This SF tradition gets crowded, so be sure to arrive early to stake out a good viewpoint.

Critical Mass
While everyone doesn’t always agree with Critical Mass’s bicycle induced traffic jams, I can appreciate the need for two-wheeled chaos on special days like this one. Meet-up with fellow riders at Justin Herman Plaza (foot of Market Street) at 5:30pm for a ride around the city.

Roller Disco
Did you miss the Halloween roller disco at Cellspace (2050 Bryant) this year? Have no fear, here’s your last chance for 2010 to party on old school quad skates and in disco/new wave attire. Plus it’s better than most packed and overpriced bars (in my humble opinion) $10, buy tickets here.

And if you are still awake and looking for an after-party…
The 11th annual Breakfast of Champions (presented by the Space Cowboys) starts their annual New Years Party at 6 am on January 1st, 2011. You heard me right. So for everyone who is still awake, get your coffee and beats Saturday morning at Mighty in the hidden away “SOMISSPO” district.
