“Three Rivers” isn’t like a lot of shows on CBS, because it isn’t about solving crimes. But it is like a lot of shows on other networks because it is, yes, another medical drama.
Remember when “Lost” first became a hit, and in the following few years all these shows that were obviously “Lost” rip-offs started to show up everywhere? Stuff like “The Nine,” and “Invasion.” Sure, none of those shows were very good, but at least they were interesting. Attempting to rip-off “Lost” is harder than ripping off “CSI” or “Grey’s Anatomy” because it’s not like you can just set a bunch of shows on an mysterious island and call it a day. But it seems like the creators of all these crime and medical dramas don’t feel the need to do much more than set their shows in a hospital or populate it with crime-solving geniuses and call it a day.
So, yes, “Three Rivers” is a medical drama about organ donors and doctors. Whether that organ donor niche is enough to differentiate it from those other medical dramas remains to be seen. Alex O’Loughlin, formerly of the CBS drama “Moonlight,” stars. (Too bad he’s not playing a vampire in this one, too. THAT could make the show stand out from the rest.) The series premieres at 9 P.M. on CBS.
