5:13 PM: An El Sobrante couple who died Sunday after falling from their boat off San Francisco’s Ocean Beach were identified by the medical examiner’s office today as Elizabeth Easterling, 50, and Jeffery Easterling, 59.
A capsized boat was reported at 4:46 p.m. Sunday near the Cliff House restaurant, located at 1090 Point Lobos Ave., the U.S. Coast Guard said.
7:15 AM 5/24: The body of a second victim from Sunday’s boating accident washed up on Ocean Beach in San Francisco this morning, according to the Police Department.
A capsized boat was reported at 4:46 p.m. Sunday near the Cliff House restaurant, located at 1090 Point Lobos Ave., the U.S. Coast Guard said.
A woman’s body was recovered after the accident, but two other potential victims were unaccounted for Sunday. Witnesses saw one man disappear under the water.
The Coast Guard tried to find the two missing people but called off the search Sunday night. Officials did not plan to continue looking this morning.
The body that washed ashore this morning is being investigated by U.S. Park Police.
Additional information was not immediately available.
9:13 PM 5/23: The body of a woman was recovered, a man appeared to disappear under the water, and authorities are searching for a possible third victim following a boating accident today in the waters off of the Cliff House restaurant in San Francisco, a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman said.
The accident was reported at 4:46 p.m. near the restaurant, located at 1090 Point Lobos Ave., after restaurant staff reported seeing a boat with people possibly in distress, Coast Guard Lt. j.g. Jeremy Pichette said.
Rachel Aguirre, a hostess at the restaurant, said a server first saw the boat, which she said appeared to be a small sailboat or other kind of small vessel. The server told Aguirre, who notified authorities.
A 47-foot vessel and helicopter from the Coast Guard responded to the area, while National Park Service rangers and San Francisco fire units also responded to assist with the rescue.
The crew on the Coast Guard vessel tried to call out to the boat, but there appeared to be no one onboard, Pichette said. Soon afterward, another call came from the Cliff House with the report of what appeared to be a kite surfer in the water closer to the shore, he said.
Coast Guard crews responded to that area and saw what appeared to be two people, a man and woman, in the water. The body of the woman was recovered, and the San Francisco medical examiner’s office was notified of her death, according to Pichette.
The body of the man has not been found, but he was seen by authorities as he fell under the water line, Pichette said.
Aguirre, the restaurant hostess, said witnesses at the restaurant saw a total of three people in the water.
Pichette said at 8:40 p.m. that authorities were continuing to look tonight for both the body of the man seen going underwater, as well as that possible third person reported by witnesses.
