11:39 AM: A driver trying to park in heavy fog early this morning in San Francisco’s Twin Peaks neighborhood ran off the road and plunged 100 feet down the side of a cliff, a fire department spokeswoman said.
Lt. Mindy Talmadge said the vehicle left Twin Peaks Boulevard and landed on Gardenside Drive below at about 3:15 a.m.
“Apparently the person was parking their vehicle and it was very foggy and they weren’t able to see, and they accidentally went over,” Talmadge said.
She said the two people in the car, a man and a woman, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Crews were working to remove the vehicle late this morning, she said.
6:16 AM: Two people were taken to a hospital in San Francisco this morning after the vehicle they were in went over a cliff and crashed down a hillside in the Twin Peaks neighborhood.
Firefighters responded to a report that a vehicle had crashed near Gardenside Drive just after 4 a.m., a dispatcher with the San Francisco Fire Department said.
The driver and one passenger had apparently been on Twin Peaks Boulevard when their vehicle went off the roadway and fell approximately 100 feet before coming to rest near Gardenside Drive.
One of the vehicle’s occupants had to be extricated by firefighters. Both crash victims were taken to a hospital and reported to be in stable condition, the dispatcher said.
It has not been determined if alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
