plane.jpgFlights between San Francisco International Airport and several European cities are being canceled for a second day today due to the continued eruption of a volcano in Iceland.

Flights to and from London, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Munich were canceled beginning Thursday, SFO airport duty manager Bob Rotiski said.

SFO averages 11 departures and 11 arrivals to and from those cities daily, according to Rotiski. On Thursday, 11 departures and five arrivals were canceled.

Rotiski said at least one carrier, United Airlines, has already canceled its London and Frankfurt flights again today.

Other affected airlines at SFO included British Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Lufthansa.

Travelers are advised to check with airlines to confirm plans.

Operations have not been impacted at Mineta San Jose and Oakland international airports, which do not offer direct flights to Europe.

The massive cloud of ash from the volcano has prompted the closure of some European airports.
