San Francisco residents today will join a nationwide series of vigils for health care reform, at an afternoon event on the steps of City Hall.

The vigils, organized by MoveOn.org and other grassroots organizations, are calling on a public option to be included in national health care reform.

Nearly 400 similar events are planned throughout the country today, according to organizers.

The San Francisco vigil begins at 5 p.m., and will include a memorial to U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., a longtime advocate of health care reform who died Friday.
