1:15 PM (BCN):Sixty-four PG&E customers in San Francisco’s Mission District are without gas service this afternoon after a construction crew ruptured a gas main earlier today, a PG&E spokesman said.
The gas line, located at 18th and Valencia streets, was struck at about 10:30 a.m., San Francisco fire Lt. Mindy Talmadge said.
Residents and businesses in the immediate area were ordered to evacuate while PG&E crews capped the leak. The evacuation order was lifted at 12:20 p.m., Talmadge said.
PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi said the 6-inch gas line was capped at noon, and that repairs were expected to be completed by 1:30 p.m. He said there is no estimate yet for when the customers will have their gas service back.
12:39 PM (BCN): Authorities have lifted an evacuation order in San Francisco’s Mission District that was prompted by a gas line rupture this morning, a fire lieutenant said.

11:18 AM: Fire and PG&E crews are at the scene of a gas leak in San Francisco’s Mission District that has prompted the evacuation of a number of homes and businesses, as well as reroutes for Muni and warnings for folks to avoid the area for at least two hours.
Construction crews struck and ruptured a gas line at 18th and Valencia streets at about 10:30 a.m., San Francisco fire Lt. Mindy Talmadge said.
Firefighters have evacuated buildings in the immediate area, including a preschool at 673 Valencia St., while PG&E crews work to repair the line, Talmadge said.
Alert system AlertSF (our municipal warning system) says the incident is a “major gas leak” and warns citizens to “avoid (the) intersection and surrounding blocks (for the) next two hours.”
The SF MTA says that the 33 Stanyan is being rerouted around the area, and that “between 16th Street and 18th Street in both directions, the 33 buses will travel on Guerrero Street instead of Mission Street.”
They also note that a 33 bus was in the area “at the start of the incident” (around 10:47 AM). They say that the 33’s “operator and customers were evacuated from the vehicle and the area.” Exciting!
