Previously: San Francisco Bound Flight Diverted After Bomb Threat
A bomb threat prompted a San Francisco International Airport-bound flight that had departed from Denver to make an unexpected stop in Salt Lake City this morning, according to the FBI.
United Flight 741 left Denver at 8:23 a.m. and landed at Salt Lake City International Airport at 9:46 a.m., airline spokeswoman Sarah Massier said.
“As a precautionary measure, the crew diverted to Salt Lake City and requested the support of local authorities,” she said.
The 168 passengers and six crew members have since been taken off the plane and United was working this afternoon to bring them to San Francisco, Massier said. She said the FBI is investigating the incident and would not provide further details.
The FBI said the flight was diverted “due to reports of an alleged bomb threat,” and that the Salt Lake City FBI Field Office is working with the airport’s Police Department and other authorities to investigate the incident.
Authorities searched the plane for explosives, but did not report finding anything suspicious.
“Because this is an ongoing investigation the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office is not releasing any further details at this time,” the agency said in a statement released late this afternoon.
