The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.0 struck this evening near Gilroy.
According to the USGS, the earthquake struck at about 6:40 p.m. and had a depth of about 4.3 miles.
The quake was centered 7 miles east-southeast of Gilroy and 9 miles north-northwest of Hollister, according to the USGS.
