Elsewhere: Revamp simplifies S.F. school choice Chron
The San Francisco Unified School District’s board of education will consider proposals tonight to revamp the district’s student assignment process.
The current system allows families to apply to several school around the city and enter a lottery process that takes several factors into account.
Those factors include parent choice, whether the child has a sibling at the school, the socioeconomic diversity of the school, and the location of the family’s home.
The board will discuss a report by a research team at Stanford University that simulated five different student assignment options being explored by the school district. The report looked at historical choice data to determine the implications of the various options.
The board will also discuss a timeline for when a final decision could be made about a new assignment process.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Irving G. Breyer Board Meeting Room at district headquarters, located at 555 Franklin St.
