New York based The Awl‘s (you do read The Awl, don’t you? It should be your favorite non SF website!) Dave Bry tells the tale of his tenure in a Green Street apartment in 1991. There are cable cars, and nakedness! All in all, its a timeless story.

Says Bry:

(A)s the months passed and I got more comfortable in the apartment, I started walking back into the room in a towel and changing there. You could hear the trolley approaching from a block away, so there was always time to cover up. Eventually, though, probably due in part to the listlessness of unemployment, I stopped making the effort.

Predictably, comments to the post focus on his use of the term “trolley” and “Cisco” (god why are we so pedantic?), missing what an awesome vacation photo subversion this act was.

I very much enjoyed the thought of the people who might have caught me on camera without noticing in real time. That would be a fun home movie screening. Greetings from San Francisco!

says Bry, putting those kids we saw adding “the finger” to some Ferry Building goers shots totally to shame.

OK. Somebody needs to bring this back. And by “this” I mean Cable Car Nudity. Who’s game?
