Chihuahua pups will be strolling down a red carpet at San Francisco International Airport on Tuesday morning as they hop on a flight to their new homes in New York.

Virgin America is assisting San Francisco Animal Care & Control by flying the pups so they can be adopted just in time for the holidays.

An overpopulation of the tiny dogs in California has forced shelters on the West Coast to send them east, where there is a demand for them.

Virgin America employees will escort the pups across the country. The Chihuahuas will be met at John F. Kennedy International Airport by officials from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
