When I was in high school, my DREAM was a Betsey Johnson prom dress. This is what I ended up with. Shut up, it was vintage! The hair, however, I cannot defend.

And while I have obviously aged a great deal since then, Johnson hasn’t — see the video above from 7×7, produced when Johnson made a recent appearance at her Union Square store. That is a hard body, no? And I kind of dig how she doesn’t “dress her age.”

In the video, Johnson is asked “if SF was reincarnated as a fashion designer, which one would it be?” In response Johnson compares us to Jean Paul Gaultier or Vivienne Westwood, “someone really out there.” Which is remarkably kind and diplomatic and flattering, because if asked the same question I might have said “REI” or “Thrift Town.”

*Speaking as someone who bugs MTA spokerperson Judson True with questions of insane Muni minutiae nearly every day, I’m reserving comment on the journalistic quality of the query.
