San Francisco’s St. Anthony Foundation is asking for donations of new socks to give to the needy this chilly holiday season.

The Tenderloin District group, which provides free meals, clothing, medicine, and substance abuse treatment for the poor, begins its annual Curbside Holiday Drive on Saturday.

They are hoping to receive 3,000 new pairs of socks to distribute on Christmas Day.

St. Anthony’s is also asking for donations of other ready-to-wear clothing; toiletries like shampoo and lotion; and turkeys, hams and canned goods such as tuna fish and peanut butter. The group is also accepting monetary donations.

Curbside donations can be made at 119 Golden Gate Ave. weekends from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
