SFPD Seeking White Van in Connection with Morning Fatal Hit-and-Run

Police are seeking a white van that fled after hitting and killing a man walking near Chinatown in San Francisco this morning.

At 5:50 a.m., police responded to a report of a body in the roadway, near the corner of Powell Street and Broadway, according to police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim deceased, Esparza said.

Witnesses told police they saw a white van strike the victim.

Police have not yet identified the victim, describing him as a man in his 60s who may have lived in the area.

The suspect vehicle is described as a white van with no back windows and police believe it may have sustained front-end damage as a result of the collision, according to Esparza.

The van was last seen driving south on Powell Street, before making a right turn and heading west on Broadway.

Officers are currently canvassing the neighborhood and seeking surveillance video that may have captured the incident, Esparza said.

Police are continuing to investigate the collision, and do not know if the pedestrian was in the crosswalk or if he walking on a green light.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact San Francisco police at (415) 575-4444. Tips can also be sent by text to TIP411, using SFPD at the beginning of the message.
