Woman Stabbed Inside Church By Transient Wednesday Night

A woman was stabbed in a church on Wednesday night in San Francisco’s Mission District, according to police.

San Francisco police said the incident occurred at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, when a suspect described as a transient entered a church in the 700 block of South Van Ness Avenue.

The suspect, a woman, asked the victim for the church’s bathroom key, police said. After the victim told the suspect she didn’t have the key, she felt what she described as a poke on her buttocks.

Five minutes later, after the suspect had already left the building, the victim realized she had been stabbed, police said.

She went to a nearby hospital for treatment of an injury that is not considered life threatening, police said.

Police have not yet arrested the suspect.

Anyone with information about the incident can call the San Francisco Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444.
