Officer On Motorcycle Injured In Collision

A San Francisco police officer on a motorcycle training ride was struck and injured by a minivan this morning near the Hall of Justice in the city’s South of Market neighborhood, police said.

The male officer was riding north on Seventh Street in a group as part of a training ride around 10 a.m. when the collision occurred, according to police Officer Albie Esparza.

The motorcycle officers were crossing Harrison Street on a green light when a westbound driver in a Chrysler Town & Country who appears to have run a red light struck the officer, Esparza said.

The officer was transported to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, Esparza said.

The minivan driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. It appears he may have been from out of town, Esparza said.

Esparza said the officer involved in the crash was a veteran officer, possibly a sergeant.

Harrison Street was shut down between Sixth and Seventh streets as a result of the investigation into the collision.
