A San Francisco woman was arrested on suspicion of stabbing her boyfriend with a kitchen knife and attacking him with a baseball bat at an apartment in San Francisco’s South Beach neighborhood on Friday afternoon, a police spokeswoman said today.
San Francisco police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said 29-year-old Mary Mak was arrested following a standoff with police that began around 3:45 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of King Street, near Fourth Street.
Gatpandan said a 911 call came in from a 33-year-old San Francisco man reporting that his girlfriend was attacking him in an apartment.
Police said that in the background of the 911 call, officers could hear a struggle ensuing.
Police arrived at the apartment and made contact with the man. Mak allowed her injured boyfriend to go downstairs to get medical attention.
Gatpandan said the boyfriend had been stabbed with a knife and beaten with a baseball bat.
He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital but his girlfriend stayed inside the apartment, threatening to take her own life.
Hostage negotiators and police confronted Mak, who was holding a knife to herself and stating that she did not want to leave the apartment alive, Gatpandan said.
Eventually, a hostage negotiator got Mak to put down the knife and she was transported to San Francisco General Hospital where she underwent medical clearance before being booked into San Francisco County Jail.
Mak was arrested for felony vandalism, felony domestic violence, two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony false imprisonment and for resisting arrest, Gatpandan said.
The motive for the attack remains under investigation.
