Residents Safely Escape Lake Street House Fire

A resident safely escaped a house fire that has been brought under control this morning in San Francisco’s Lake Street neighborhood, a fire department spokeswoman said.

The blaze was reported at 8:33 a.m. at 117 Fourth Ave., located between Lake and California streets, fire officials said.

Arriving firefighters located a female resident in the backyard and escorted her to safety as thick black smoke poured from the building, fire spokeswoman Jen Balestrieri said.

Firefighters had water on the flames at 8:41 a.m. and managed to bring the fire under control at 8:56 a.m., Balestrieri said.

She said the blaze was contained to the rear part of the building’s second floor.

Fire officials said no other residents were home at the time and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Balestrieri said.
