SFPD Investigate Homicide After Body Parts Found in Suitcase

Police in San Francisco this morning are investigating the Wednesday discovery of human body parts found in a suitcase.

Officers responded at 4:14 p.m. to the area of 11th Street between Market and Mission streets in reference to a suspicious package.

Police discovered a suitcase containing human remains inside and located more remains during an ensuing search of the area.

It was unclear if the remains belonged to one victim, police said.

Eleventh Street was shut down from Market Street to Howard Street and Mission Street was closed from Van Ness Avenue to 10th Street as homicide investigators worked the scene.

The incident brings San Francisco’s homicide total to 10 for 2015, police said.

Police plan on releasing a suspect description once more information is available.

Officers were able to obtain a distinct suspect description, but are not releasing the description until they are actively attempting to locate the person of interest, police said.

Police have not released the exact time the suitcase was brought to 11th Street.
