A member of San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s board of directors has passed away, Mayor Ed Lee announced today.
Jerry Lee, who joined the SFMTA board in 2008, was serving as the chair of its policy and governance committee.
“Jerry was committed to San Francisco and helped move our transportation agency forward during a time of growth and increased demand on the system,” Lee said in a statement.
“As a native San Franciscan, Jerry was a lifelong Muni rider and had a deep understanding of San Francisco’s many modes of transportation and how to improve them. He was a community stalwart, committed to helping all residents, especially seniors, youth and our most vulnerable,” he said.
Flags at City Hall are at half-staff in honor of Lee, the mayor said.
Lee’s service to San Francisco dates back to 1988, when he was a special assistant to then-Mayor Art Agnos to help establish the newly formed Department of Parking and Traffic. He also served as chairman of the city’s Taxi Committee and, prior to joining the SFMTA board, was the manager of community affairs or UPS.
