Documented Gang Member Arrested After Shots Fired in Bayview

A man described as a documented gang member was arrested Thursday afternoon following a shooting in San Francisco’s Bayview District, according to police.

At about 2:25 p.m. on Thursday, police officers on patrol in the Bayview District heard several gunshots come from the intersection of Third Street and Quesada Avenue, police said.

Officers responded to the intersection and discovered broken glass and spent shell casings in the street.

Witnesses provided a description of a suspect and a suspect vehicle. Officers searched the area and located the suspect vehicle, parked a block away and riddled with bullets, police said.

Officers located 26-year-old San Francisco resident Antoine Colbert, who matched the description of the shooter. Colbert was positively identified and detained, San Francisco police Officer Albie Esparza said.

A gunshot residue test was conducted to detect if Colbert had recently fired a handgun.

Colbert was identified as a documented gang member and arrested on suspicion of shooting into a vehicle, discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a loaded firearm as well as a gang enhancement, Esparza said.

The suspect also had a warrant out of Tulare County for driving while under the influence and on a suspended license, as well as for lying to police by providing them with a false name, according to Esparza.

Officers searched the area following the shooting, but no victims or additional damage were located, police said.
