Candlelight Vigil, Memorial for Homeless Lives Lost at Civic Center

An interfaith memorial and candlelit vigil is taking place at San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza this evening to commemorate homeless individuals who have died or been killed on the city’s streets, according to event organizers.

Following a memorial service earlier in the afternoon at St. Anthony’s dining room, advocates for homeless individuals were expected to gather at Civic Center Plaza at 5:30 p.m. to honor the lives of those who have died.

Among the most notorious homeless deaths to have occurred this year, was that of 67-year-old Tai Lam, who was beat to death in his sleeping bag in the Financial District in November.

No suspects have been arrested in connection with Lam’s death and a motive for the killing has not been determined, police said.
