Embarcadero Enhancement Project Holds Open House

An open house will be held this evening to give residents a chance to weigh in and learn about proposed changes along The Embarcadero in San Francisco.

The Embarcadero Enhancement Project, headed by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, the Port of San Francisco, and other city departments, aims to create a bikeway from Third Street to Powell and Jefferson streets along the road that hugs the Bay.

The bikeway would be a lane physically separated from cars and pedestrians to connect the South Beach neighborhood to Fisherman’s Wharf.

SFMTA officials say the separated lane will improve safety and comfort for bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorists on the roadway.

Planning for the project will include public participation with residents reviewing and commenting on designs, costs and impact on safety and aesthetics in the area.

Funding for the project comes from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the SFMTA and the Port of San Francisco.

The open house will be held at Pier 1 on the Embarcadero at 6 p.m.
