Electric Bike Lockers Installed at Three SF-Owned Garages

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency announced today the installation of 32 electronic bicycle lockers at three city-owned garages.

The “smart” electronic bike lockers are located at the Ellis-O’Farrell Parking Garage at 123 O’Farrell St., the Fifth and Mission/Yerba Buena Garage at 833 Mission St. and the Sutter Stockton Garage at 444 Stockton St.

Bicycle lockers are containers that provide secure long-term bike parking, according to the SFMTA. Bicyclists can use the lockers after obtaining a BikeLink card and registering online at www.bikelink.org. The cards cost $20.

The locker fee is $.05 per hour, and the maximum rental time for any locker for any rental period is 10 days.

The agency also announced the installation of an on-street bike corral on Harrison Street near 19th Street. The corral will include more than 50 bike parking spaces.

More than 1,000 similar bike lockers are available at 28 BART stations in the Bay Area, officials said. There are approximately 8,500 bike parking spaces citywide.
