Cab Hits Pedestrian Near Powell St. BART Station

A taxi hit a pedestrian near San Francisco’s Powell BART station this afternoon, a police spokesman said.

The pedestrian was struck around 2:30 p.m. near Fifth and Market streets, San Francisco police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

The pedestrian suffered only minor injuries and did not need to go to the hospital, Esparza said.

The cab driver remained at the scene after the incident, he said.

In your reporting, it might be helpful to know whether it was a “taxi” or a “car-share service” vehicle. Thanks.

Thanks for asking! SFPD is always very specific in denoting when a vehicle is a car service vehicle, and when it’s a taxi. Unless specified otherwise, when the Appeal says “cab” or “Taxi,” that’s what we mean.

I commute by that intersection twice a day and there is never a shortage of speeding taxis or zombie jay walkers. Recipe for disaster.
