U-Haul Driver Arrested After Slamming Into Fire Truck Then Taking Off

The driver of a U-Haul truck was arrested after crashing into the back of a fire truck in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood and trying to flee this morning, a police spokesman said.

The U-Haul was on Ringold Street, a small alleyway between Folsom and Harrison streets, when it came out onto Ninth Street and hit the back of a San Francisco fire truck at about 11 a.m., police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

The driver tried to flee, but the fire truck chased after it, calling police dispatchers and describing the truck, Esparza said.

The U-Haul driver then went back onto Ringold, hitting a parked car and then coming back to the corner of Ninth and Folsom, just feet from where the original crash occurred, Esparza said.

Police were waiting and arrested the woman driving the U-Haul there.

Esparza said it is unclear what charges she might be facing. No one was injured.
