Evacuation After Reports Of Large Gas Main Break In The Bayview

11:07 AM: A gas main break that triggered evacuations in San Francisco’s Bayview District this morning has been capped and residents have been allowed back into their homes, according to a PG&E spokesman.

The gas main break at 1367 Palou Ave. was reported to PG&E at 9:45 a.m. after a non-PG&E work crew damaged the fitting on an 8-inch steel main, utility spokesman Jason King said.

Firefighters responding to the scene evacuated three homes, but residents were allowed to return home after the flow of gas was stopped at 10:19 a.m., King said.

One customer has been affected by the break and repairs are expected to finish this afternoon, King said.

PG&E asks all contractors and residents to call 811 before digging to check for utility lines in areas where construction is planned, King said.
