Bayview Shooting Prompts Brief Lockdown Of Elementary School

An elementary school was briefly locked down after a shooting in San Francisco’s Bayview District this afternoon, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded at 3:26 p.m. to the area of Gilman Avenue and Ingalls Street after reports of shots fired came in through the department’s ShotSpotter system.

While the officers were heading to the area, two men got themselves to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds, San Francisco police Officer Albie Esparza said.

The men, ages 25 and 23, are undergoing surgeries for lower-body gunshot wounds. They are both expected to survive, Esparza said.

There was no suspect information immediately available and the victims are being uncooperative with investigators, Esparza said.

Bret Harte Elementary, located at 1035 Gilman Ave., sheltered in place after the shooting was reported, police said.
The campus was otherwise not affected by the incident, Esparza said.
