All Clear Given After Shooting Prompts Lockdown At SF Elementary School

A lockdown at an elementary school in San Francisco’s Bayview District has ended following a shooting that occurred nearby this afternoon, a police spokesman said.

The shooting was reported around 1:40 p.m. on Hawes Street near Gilman Avenue.

The incident prompted a shelter-in-place order at Bret Harte Elementary School, located at 1035 Gilman Ave., Officer Albie Esparza said.

The lockdown was lifted around 3 p.m.

A 28-year-old man was shot and injured. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital and is expected to survive, Esparza said.

Police were searching for the suspect in the area around the school, but have since scaled back the search, Esparza said.

A San Francisco Unified School District spokeswoman said students, teachers and staff on campus were unharmed during the lockdown.
