49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick Denies Sexual Assault Allegations

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick today refuted media reports that he is being investigated for sexual assault in Miami.

A police report released by Miami police Thursday made no mention of sexual assault, but described an incident where Kaepernick was drinking and smoking marijuana with a woman as well as 49ers wide receiver Quinton Patton in Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette’s Miami apartment.

The woman later woke up in a hospital bed without remembering what happened, according to the report.

“The charges made in the TMZ story and other stories I’ve seen are completely wrong,” Kaepernick posted on Twitter this morning. “They make things up about me that never happened.”

He continued, “I take great pride in who I am and what I do, but I guess sometimes you have to deal with someone who makes things up. I want to thank all of the people who have shared their encouraging sentiments. I assure you that your faith is not misplaced.”

The suspicious incident investigated on Miami police happened on April 1. Kaepernick, Patton, Lockette and the woman were reportedly drinking and smoking marijuana in Lockette’s apartment when the woman became light-headed and went to lie down.

According to the report the woman and Kaepernick had a previous sexual relationship and shortly after she went to lie down the two started kissing and Kaepernick was undressing her.

Kaepernick then left the bedroom and told her he would be right back, according to the report.

A short time later Lockette allegedly peeked into the room and the woman said, “What are you doing? Where is Colin?” according to the report.

After that, the woman told police she doesn’t remember anything and woke up in a hospital bed without knowing how she got there.

49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement Thursday that the team is “aware of the recent media report regarding Colin Kaepernick and is in the process of gathering the pertinent facts.”

Two of Kaepernick’s teammates have court dates in San Jose this afternoon for run-ins with the law. Linebacker Aldon Smith has hearings scheduled for separate allegations of possessing an illegal assault weapon and driving under the influence.

Cornerback Chris Culliver is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon for allegations of carrying metal knuckles and hit-and-run charges.
