A boy was hospitalized after being hit by a car in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood this morning, a police spokesman said.
The collision occurred around 7:30 a.m. at Leavenworth and O’Farrell streets. The boy’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police, Shyy said.
No other information about the case was immediately available this afternoon.
The incident occurred a day after a gruesome pedestrian death in the city’s Sunset District and only about five hours after another pedestrian was struck and critically injured near City Hall.
Police Chief Greg Suhr said today that his department has been stepping up traffic enforcement citywide, with traffic citations up 43 percent in January compared to a year ago.
Pedestrian advocates have called for measures including safety improvements to various intersections around the city. There were 21 pedestrian deaths in San Francisco last year—the most since 2007.
