SFPD Chases Stolen Van Containing Stolen ATM Down 80, Suspects Still At Large

Police recovered a stolen ATM from a stolen van after pursuing a wrong-way driver on Interstate Highway 80 in San Francisco this morning.

At about 3:30 a.m., San Francisco police responded to reports that an ATM had been stolen from the 2400 block of Fillmore Street, near Alta Plaza Park.

According to police, two male suspects used a van to rip the ATM machine free and then fled the area in the van.

Officers said they followed the suspect vehicle onto eastbound Interstate Highway 80.

Police said the suspect vehicle came off the Bay Bridge heading west in the eastbound lanes of I-80 and then exited at 5th and Bryant streets.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspects evaded officers and a pursuit was initiated.

The stolen ATM machine and the unoccupied stolen van were recovered a short time later in the Potrero Hill neighborhood near the intersection of 19th and Missouri streets, according to police.

Police said the van appears to have been stolen from the South Bay.

The suspects evaded arrest and police are asking anyone with information about the suspects to contact police at (415) 558-8090 or may do so anonymously at (415) 885-5187.
