Muni Driver Failed To Stop After Striking Pedestrian

A 17-year-old girl was injured when a San Francisco Municipal Railway light-rail vehicle struck her in the city’s Bayview District on Sunday afternoon, a police spokesman said today.

The collision occurred at about 3:15 p.m. at Third Street and Hollister Avenue.

The girl was apparently walking against a red light when she was struck by the Muni vehicle, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

She complained of pain to her head and the left side of her body, and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, Esparza said. She is expected to survive.

The Muni driver continued on after the collision and may not have known that the girl had been hit, Esparza said. The vehicle stopped a short time later when witnesses reported the incident to police, he said.
