Medical Examiner Identifies Man Killed By Recology Truck

A man who was struck and killed by a Recology truck in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood on Friday morning has been identified by the medical examiner’s office as 49-year-old Donald Yazzie.

Yazzie, a San Francisco resident, was hit at about 7:40 a.m. at Jones and Antonio streets, just south of O’Farrell Street, police said.

The Recology bin delivery truck was backing up when it struck Yazzie, according to police.

Recology issued a statement following the accident.

“Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to family members of the individual who died,” the statement said.

“Recology provides a critical service in a challenging urban environment. Our drivers are some of the best trained in the business and they exercise caution in all of their operations. We will fully evaluate the circumstances of this accident and take all appropriate actions to prevent future incidents,” the statement said.
