A three-alarm fire that damaged five buildings in San Francisco’s Mission District on Monday afternoon displaced 21 people, a fire department spokeswoman said today.
The fire was reported at 12:34 p.m. at a two-story building at 1448/1450 Valencia St., between 25th and 26th streets.
That building sustained $600,000 in structural damage, and $200,000 in contents was destroyed, fire department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.
It has been red-tagged, meaning it is unsafe to enter, Talamdge said.
The blaze spread to the EHS Pilates studio next door at 1452 Valencia St., Talmadge said. The studio was estimated to have $250,000 in damage to the building and $100,000 in damage to contents.
Flames also spread to buildings at 1442-1446 and 1436-1440 Valencia St., which sustained $250,000 and $100,000 in damage, respectively.
A fifth building at 345-351 San Jose Ave. was estimated to have $25,000 in damage.
Nineteen adults and two children who lived at the various buildings were displaced, Talmadge said. The American Red Cross is assisting those affected.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, including one crew member who suffered a cut, she said.
The cause of the fire, which was controlled shortly before 2 p.m., remains under investigation.
