Cyclist Killed After Collision With Semi

Note: Police initially said the bicyclist who died was 30 years old. Police have since clarified that she was 24 years old. The correction has been made in the story below.

9:09 AM: A bicyclist died after being hit by a big-rig in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood this morning, police said.

The collision was reported at 7:07 a.m. at Sixth and Folsom streets.

The bicyclist, a 3024-year-old woman, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, police said.

Streets in the area were blocked off after the accident but have since reopened.

Police initially said the bicyclist was a man but have since clarified that the victim was a woman.

8:52 AM: A woman riding a bicycle was badly injured in a collision with a semi truck in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood this morning, a police spokeswoman said.

The accident was reported at 7:07 a.m. at Sixth and Folsom streets, a fire department employee said.

The cyclist was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police Officer Tracy Turner said.
