An unlicensed civil engineer who allegedly forged documents for projects involving at least 80 San Francisco properties has been ordered to stand trial on 232 felony counts, prosecutors said Monday.
Jimmy Jen, 59, is accused of forging the signature and engineering stamp of two licensed civil engineers on hundreds of documents he filed with the city on behalf of property owners, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.
The projects that involved the forged documents included the expansion of a ground-floor unit in the Mission District, replacement of a home’s foundation in Presidio Heights and the redevelopment of the Alexandria Theater in the city’s Richmond District, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors have reviewed more than 10,000 pages of documents in the case and say the alleged crimes occurred over two decades, between 1990 and 2010, when Jen was arrested along with his associate Jian Min Fong.
A San Francisco Superior Court judge on Friday ordered Jen to stand trial on 232 felony counts, including 143 separate forgery counts and 84 counts of submitting false documents to a government office.
Fong was also held to answer on 86 counts, including 46 forgery counts and 37 counts of submitting false documents to a government office, prosecutors said.
The defendants will return to court on July 30 for formal arraignment on the charges.
