SF Woman Duped By Dating Site Paramour

A woman in San Francisco’s Outer Parkside neighborhood was allegedly duped recently into giving a large sum of money to a man she met on an online dating site, police said Tuesday.

A woman living in the 2600 block of 39th Avenue reported the theft to the Police Department’s Taraval Station on May 1.

The woman said she had talked to a man on a dating website who said he was a cruise ship employee who was recently injured in a terrorist attack in Dubai, police said.

The man told the woman he needed money for medical bills and asked her to loan him money, which she did by sending several wire transfers, according to police.

However, as the man kept requesting money from her, she became suspicious and informed police. The investigation unit from the Taraval Station is investigating the case, police said.
