A man was arrested after allegedly breaking into a restaurant in San Francisco’s Richmond District early Wednesday morning, police said.
The burglary was reported at 4:53 a.m. Wednesday in the 2400 block of Clement Street, which is near 25th Avenue, where a caller reported hearing banging noises inside a nearby restaurant and saw someone walking around inside with a flashlight, according to police.
Officers arrived and saw someone rummaging through the front desk of the restaurant with a flashlight. The suspect, a 53-year-old man, suddenly stood up and saw the officers, who took him into custody shortly afterward, police said.
The restaurant’s owner found that several cabinets had been forced open in the building, as well as the cash register, police said.
The suspect, whose name was not immediately available, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and attempted burglary of the business next door. He was also on probation for a separate burglary, police said.
