4/20 Is No Joke at Golden Gate Park Celebration

We can all agree that tomorrow is going to be a special day. Once you’re done at the first District Town Hall meeting to discuss SF’s budget, you’ve got another big event to focus on: 4/20 itself. An event which, according to the Ex, comes with its own hefty price tag.

There is no official organizer for the Golden Gate Park celebration of cannabis, held every year on April 20. Since this year’s is on the weekend, it’s expected to be even bigger than usual, which means more that we have to pay for afterwards.

As many as an estimated 10,000 have convened in past years in the area of Hippie Hill, many of whom make the celebration an all-day affair.

SF’s Rec and Park tells the Ex that it’ll take about four days and cost over $10,000 to clean up after the party.

And don’t forget that this is a BYOW affair — SFPD’s Captain Corrales, who is well known for his Haight-area undercover pot busts, is just across the street heading up the Park Station.

Corrales tells the Ex that “there will be zero tolerance” for weed sales at the event. You have been warned!
