Search agencies are looking for a man who reportedly jumped into the water near a San Francisco pier Wednesday night, according to U.S. Coast Guard officials.
A man apparently jumped into the water near Fort Mason Pier around 10 p.m. Wednesday after ending a cellphone conversation that appeared to have been aggravating, Coast Guard officials said.
The man who entered the water has been described as a white middle-aged man with curly hair and wearing a white T-shirt and gray sweatshirt. Set-up crews for a business party event to be held today reported the incident, Coast Guard officials said.
The Coast Guard has rescue crews from Golden Gate and San Francisco stations and Air Station San Francisco on the scene and searching for the man as of 1:30 a.m. this morning.
The San Francisco police and fire departments each had a boat crew searching the area as well, according to the Coast Guard.
According to the fire department, fire search crews left the scene when the man had not been found as of 2 a.m.
At 2 a.m. an 87-foot patrol boat, the Coast Guard Cutter Tern, was scheduled to join the search to relieve Coast Guard boat crews.
Search-and-rescue coordinators have requested the public’s help to spread information about the missing man and to help officials identify him.
