cover-crosswalk.jpgA man who was struck by a car in San Francisco’s Outer Mission neighborhood on Wednesday morning has died, police said today.

The pedestrian, identified by the medical examiner’s office as 69-year-old Hector Arana, was struck at 6:26 a.m. Wednesday near San Jose Avenue and Liebig Street, according to police.

The vehicle, driven by a man in his 30s, was heading north on San Jose Avenue when it struck Arana, who hit the front windshield of the car and landed in the street, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

Arana, a San Francisco resident, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver, who was distraught, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, Esparza said. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the collision, he said.
