A third suspect arrested in connection with the smashing and torching of a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus after the Giants’ World Series victory was arraigned today on felony charges of vandalism and willful tampering with a passenger transit vehicle, prosecutors said.
Adam Diaz, 24, of Oakland, pleaded not guilty to the charges. He remains in custody on $25,000 bail and will return to court on Nov. 29 for a preliminary hearing, district attorney’s office spokesman Alex Bastian said.
Police arrested Diaz last Friday after identifying him as a suspect in the smashing of an 8X-Bayshore Express bus around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 29 at Market and Third streets.
Investigators had released photos of someone smashing the bus with a skateboard and members of the public identified Diaz as the suspect, police said.
Two other men have already been charged in connection with the vandalism of the bus.
Nicholas Hudson, 19, of Daly City, and Gregory Graniss, 22, each pleaded not guilty to similar charges after being photographed during the rowdy revelry after the Giants’ victory.
Police are still seeking other suspects in connection with the vandalism and torching of the Muni bus, which had eight passengers and the driver on board when a crowd stopped it. All nine safely got off before the bus was set aflame and destroyed, police said.
