A San Francisco man with a dog walking business in the city’s Bayview District was convicted of four counts of animal cruelty today, the San Francisco District Attorney announced today.
Abraham Taylor, 36, was convicted of four misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and sentenced to 60 days in county jail, according to the district attorney’s office.
Animal Care and Control officers responded to an anonymous call on March 15 that four dogs appeared to be emaciated and sick on Taylor’s property at Hudson Avenue where he had a dog daycare and walking business, officials said.
Arriving officers found four Weimaraner and retriever breed dogs that were sick and emaciated.
The one-year-old dogs were malnourished and starved, covered in feces and had scabs and scars on their skin, officials said.
According to ACC officers, the dogs had to be carried away because they couldn’t walk on their own.
Within a month of their rescue the dogs had doubled in weight.
In addition to the jail sentence, Taylor received three years’ probation, $880 in fines and the condition that he cannot adopt animals in the future or work in animal care as his profession, officials said.
Two of the dogs have since been adopted into happy homes. The other two, Annette and Rosalynn, are still looking for new homes.
