wave.jpgJust 50 volunteers turned out for Saturday morning’s Ocean Beach clean-up, sponsored by that giant music festival just a few thousand feet inland. Though Outside Lands brought as many as 60,000 people that day, about 0.0008% of them were at the clean-up, Ocean Beach Bulletin reports.

The event drew similar numbers as SF Surfrider Foundation’s thrice monthly beach clean-up and might’ve provided a bit less trash, too.

Said Black Pearson of the Surfrider Foundation, “It’s really foggy and cold, so that’s probably kept a lot of people off the beach. We’ve definitely had regular sunny weekend cleanups with a lot more trash than this.”

The event was also sponsored by San Franpsycho, who gave T-shirts to all volunteers, Java Beach, who provided coffee, Devil’s Teeth Baking Company, who had cookies, and Noreiga Produce who doled out bananas.

As the OBB reports, every person they spoke with at the clean-up was a neighborhood resident, many of which attended the three-day festival.
