Attention night owls, particularly those who ride public transit: BART wants you to take a survey on the proposed late Friday and Saturday night BART Express Bus Service.
The buses would run at 20 to 30 minute headways after BART shuts down its service late Friday and Saturday nights (technically, early Saturday and Sunday mornings), with the last bus leaving downtown SF at around 2 AM.
Late Night Express buses would also stop at AC Transit’s 800 All Nighter Service stops in SF, including Civic Center Station, Van Ness Station, Powell St. Station, Montgomery Station, and Embarcadero Station.
According to BART, the transit agency is also looking to explore expanding this Express bus service into the Mission District.
(AC Transit’s 800 All Nighter already serves the BART Red Line, leaving every half hour from 12:30am to 6am and stopping at West Oakland, 12th St, 19th St, and MacArthur BART Stations.)
The Yellow Line Express, which would be operated by County Connection, would stop at Rockridge, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, and Pittsburg/Bay Point, while the AC Transit-operated Green Line Express stopping in Lake Merritt, Fruitvale, Bay Fair, Hayward, Union City, and Fremont.
The aforementioned stops were picked based on their proximity to freeways and arterial off-ramps and surveyed interest as well as existing late night BART ridership, according to their website.
According to BART, the total cost of the pilot plan will be $800,000. Service could begin as soon as September 2012.
